‘Nowhere to Stand’ 1985

Lea Andrews

Lea Andrews was born in 1958 in Sonning Common,  Oxfordshire.

He studied Fine Art at Brighton and at the Slade School of Fine Art, London from 1982 - 1987.

His work examines issues around the body, identity and family, using large scale photographic images, video projection and performance.

His work is in private and public collections.  He has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad, most notably in the British Council touring show, ‘De-Composition – Constructed Photography in Britain’, the exhibitions, ‘The Invisible City’/ ‘Behold the Man’/ ‘Maximum Exposure’ / ‘Collected’ at The Photographers Gallery, London and ‘The British Art Shows’ 3 and 5.

After a period of absence, he is making new work using digital photography and projection. In 2022, he produced images and a publication for an exhibition in Henley- on-Thames, Oxfordshire, based on a ‘censored’ school photograph from the 1970’s. In 2023 he was nominated for the David and Yuko Juda Foundation Award and received a Special Award.

His show, ‘Bänkelsänger’ was the inaugural exhibition at the Dysfunctional Gallery, Catford.
